The practice of retrofit emerged and was developed in Europe with the transformation of historical buildings, rescuing the architecture of different eras. The BVEP project NIGRI Plaza employed solutions and technologies which allowed for the expansion of all the entire building with full maintenance of its original facade and the access foyer.
The area of the old theater has been fully renovated and adapted into a lobby and multifunctional auditorium to meet current usage demands. The revitalization project sought to modernize all installations, window frames and restoration of the entire facade and the main entrance of the building, which is an ART DECO architectural style recognized and initiated in Europe between the 1910’s and 1930’s seen as an elegant, functional and ultramodern movement.
The BVEP NIGRI Plaza is preserved by RPH (Human Heritage Institute of Rio), with a public initiative of valorization of the architectural culture of the city.
